Sustainability questions for purchasing

recirculating aquaculture system tanks

Compare water, energy and material choices using a documented operating basis. A recirculating label does not establish project resource use, discharge compliance or a supplier's environmental credentials.

A dashboard of required inputs

These panels describe information to request. They are not measured performance charts or published savings.

m³

Working tank volume

Confirm volume at the operating water level and state the species and biomass basis. Nominal shell volume and usable culture volume should be recorded separately, together with tank material and intended cleaning method.

m³/h

System flow rate

Require flow at the stated hydraulic duty, with pressure losses and treatment equipment included. A pump's catalogue maximum is not evidence of circulation at the installed duty point.

kW

Installed and operating load

Ask which pumps, oxygen equipment, heating and control loads are counted. Compare operating hours and duty conditions alongside equipment price; installed power alone does not establish energy consumed.

Water balance

Makeup and discharge

Request the assumptions for makeup, cleaning losses and sludge removal. Record incoming water quality and intended discharge route. Avoid transferring resource claims from an unrelated species or site to this purchase.

Keep the basis beside the proposal

Ask for the actual supplier drawings and operating assumptions rather than an unsupported sustainability badge. A material declaration should identify the quoted tank construction and wetted components. Supplier certificates need an issuing body, covered entity, validity and scope; no certificate is claimed by Field Route Sourcing.

Higher automation may offer more operating visibility but also adds sensors, calibration and maintenance obligations. A simpler control package may reduce procurement complexity while requiring more operator checks. Premium, mid-range and budget-focused preferences should be compared against these duties, spare-part access and the agreed emergency response scope.

Document review checkpoints

  1. Before quotations

Identify who will determine the exact site's water, discharge and installation requirements. Provide known source-water conditions and the proposed US destination; leave unresolved approvals marked pending.

  2. Before acceptance

Obtain material and equipment documentation for the quoted configuration. Compare delivered scope and total procurement cost, including freight, spare parts and commissioning. Confirm the test method for the proposed flow and controls, without implying an existing successful test.

  3. Before operation

Agree how installed performance will be checked under stated conditions and who records the results. Biofilter nitrification, dissolved oxygen (DO) control and waste handling depend on operational inputs and maintenance. Product documentation does not replace the buyer's site approvals or operating procedures.

Request a documented alternative

List the tank material, quantity, working volume and design flow. Add your water, power and document priorities so proposed substitutes can be compared on the same basis.
